In collaboration with DFKI, a shared task will be organised focusing on low-resource languages within WMT 2021
The shared task wants to promote research on multilingual systems that are able to translate across related languages without the need of a high-resourced language, but by “joining efforts” among the close ones.
For the evaluation, we consider two Indo-European language families (North-Germanic and Romance). Submissions will allow us to compare several approaches with different data settings and see what performs best here. Besides this, we will focus on document level translation, named entities and related phenomena, by setting 2 subtasks: Wikipedia article translation (Romanian-Occitan-Catalan) and Europeana abstracts translation (Icelandic-Norwegian-Swedish).
